MBMS SOCCER ALERT!

The Malcom Bridge Middle Soccer team who started of the season dominant after winning the preseason tournament averaging almost 4 goals a game. Well the opponents only took 2 shots on goal in that tournament (both of which were against backup keeper/defenseman Jack Zerkel.) The dominance continued for the next game, causing defenseman Chuy Bodie to get aggravated and quit the team. About a week ago, keeper Stephen Gunkel announced he was being re-rezoned back to Oconee Middle leaving Malcom Bridge with backup keeper/defenseman Jack Zerkel to become the fulltime keeper. Zerkel, who was on the team last year, will debut as the starting keeper tommorow at St. Joe's.

DINGO is Digging...Track

Wow...the Malcom Bridge boy's track team has gone from zero last year to hero this year. Led by 7th graders Kawon Bryant and Cole Thornton, and 8th graders Oscar Almanza and Ross Crowell, the Lightning have finished 2nd or 3rd in most meets they've competed in, usually finishing behind teams not in our league (Athens Christian, Prince Avenue, etc.) with strong showings in sprinting, distance, and jumping. The girls are as good, if not better than they were last year when they finished 2nd at the league championships. The girls team, led by 7th graders Kat Waldrop and Emma Lowring, and 8th graders Kelly Willis, Dorie Faber, Olivia Pigg, Emily Measel, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc., have also finished 2nd or 3rd in most of their meets with very strong showings in distance, throwing, jumping, and hurdles.
There is an A Team meet at East Jackson this Saturday and a B Team meet at Oglethorpe this Monday.

DINGO is Digging...The Granddaddy Rivalry of them all (in Oconee County that is)

Wow...what a game! Last night was the oh so popular Malcom Bridge @ Oconee basketball. Unfortunetly, I arrived in the middle of the 3rd quarter of the girls game. At the time, OC was up by 2 or 3, but at the beginning of the 4th, Malcom Bridge was running away with it. The one thing I can't forget was a very blatent, yet, uncalled technical against an OC player after setting a HARD pick on MBMS's Carmen Williams. Carmen left the game for a few minutes, but was back on the court soon. In the end, the Malcom Bridge Lady Lightning ended up beating the Oconee Lady Braves 32-17. The boys game looked like it would be a runaway game for the Braves at the very beginning but the 1st quarter ended 14-13. The Lightning hung around and even took the lead once or twice, but the Braves were leading the Lighting 26-23. The obvious first half highlight was no doubtedly Lightning Center Carter Warden's monster block that didn't count because of a foul right before it. Malcom Bridge kept hanging around and even took the lead after the 3rd quarter 37-36. The game was only getting better. In the 4th quarter, there must have been 10 lead changes, including 4 in the final minute of the game. Unfortunetly, OC was able to take the lead with 16.9 seconds left, forcing Garrett Green to foul to stop the clock, which put Malcom Bridge into the bonus. OC hit both of their free throws putting the Braves up by 2. When the Lightning couldn't score, they were forced to foul again, and the Braves hit both the freebies and went up by 4 and it stayed that way. The Oconee Braves had defeated the Malcom Bridge Lightning 48-44.

DINGO is Digging...The 2009 Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram

Congratulations Mark! Way to bring the hardware to Alabama for the first time. You are an outstanding player. You completely deserve it. You are now part of the college football record books as the 74th member of the Heisman Fraternity.
Also, congratulations to Toby, Colt, Ndamukong, Tim, C.J., and Kellen for getting votes in this outstanding competition. Toby, you put up a good fight, breaking the record for the closest Heisman voting ever.
Great job everybody.

DINGO is digging...The Heisman Countdown.

Since 1935, the Heisman Trophy has been given out to the best college football players in the nation, and another one will join their ranks tonight. Previous winners include Archie Griffin from Ohio State back in '74 and '75, Georgia great Herschel Walker back in '82, Doug Flutie and his hail mary pass for Boston College in '84, Andre Ware from Houston in '89, and current NFL stars including Charles Woodson, Ricky Williams, Carson Palmer, and Reggie Bush. Now who will win it this year? Will the Heisman basically be a QB award (Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy) like it has been 8 of the last 9 times? Or will a running back (Toby Gerhart and Mark Ingram) win it for the first time since Reggie Bush in 2005? Or maybe will a lineman (Ndamukong Suh) win it for the first time since Leon Hart with Notre Dame in 1949?
So the question is who will it be?
Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
Toby Gerhart, RB, Stanford

DINGO is Digging...The Heisman Trophy Candidates

Today, DINGO is digging the Heisman Trophy Candidates: Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, Ndamukong Suh, Mark Ingram, and Toby Gerhart. I've got two opinions about the Heisman. My hope is that Ndamukong Suh wins it because Ndamukong Suh is and awesome name. My gut is telling me that Mark Ingram will win it. I guess we'll find out in a few days.

DINGO is Digging...The BCS National Championship Game

Today, DINGO is digging the 2010 Citi BCS National Championship Game between Alabama and Texas. This should be an outstanding game. Last year, both these teams were contenders to get into the title game, but neither made it. Now, both of them are in. I'm ready to see 2 Heisman contenders (Colt McCoy and Mark Ingram) on the same field. Basically, great game, I've got 'Bama in this shootout 44-38.
